Hi! My name is Clicquot. I am named after the French champagne, Veuve Clicquot. My dad said that since I am a French Poodle, I should have a French name. Poodles come in many colors, but I am black. I only have 3 toes on my back foot, as I had to have one removed, but my foot doesn’t bother me, and I can run very well.

I have been in Love on 4 Paws a couple of years, and I love my job. When my mom puts on her green shirt, I know that we are going to visit the hospital. I get very excited and anxious to leave. I sit at the front door and wait impatiently. I love visiting kids most of all, so we usually go to Childrens Hospital.

On one visit, a few months after I started, I entered the room of a little boy who was comatose. He could not move or open his eyes, and his mom did not speak English. I was not sure whether or not I should stay, but his mom pointed to the bed, and I understood. I gently jumped on the bed and lay down next to the little boy. His mom was speaking to him and, although I do not speak Spanish, I understood what she was saying. She was telling her son that a black dog was lying in bed next to him. She picked up her little boy’s hand, which was curled up, and she held it and rubbed it up and down my back. Soon my mom noticed that the little boy’s fingers were moving, and that he was trying to feel my soft fur. He did not move his fingers very much, but he moved them just enough so that we all saw it. It made me very happy to see how pleased both my mom and the little boy’s mom were. The boy knew I was there, and that little tiny movement was an important first step.

That is the reason that I like coming to Children’s Hospital. It makes my mom and me so happy to bring a little light and happiness into someone’s life, even for a few moments.
