Roscoe The Best Medicine

A case in point is a recent visit to the hospital by “Roscoe”, a three year old orange and white English Setter. During his visit, Roscoe met a little red haired deaf girl about seven or eight years old. Just prior to their meeting she had been very upset and was crying, and her adult companion was having difficulty calming her down. When she was asked if the little girl would like to have a visit from a dog, she was delighted. She explained that the little girl was particularly fond of dogs and that maybe a visit would help relieve her distress.

Sure enough, when Roscoe entered the room, the source of her distress was soon forgotten. He jumped right up on the bed and sat next to the little girl, who immediately began to pet him. They both seemed to enjoy this activity because she had a big smile on her face and he was wagging his tale at a rather rapid rate. Before long, she was feeding him treats supplied by the Love on 4 Paws volunteer and everything seemed right with the world. The transformation from tears to happiness was truly something to behold.

As a parting memento of their visit together, our Love on 4 Paws volunteer took a picture of Roscoe sitting next to his new little friend and gave it to her. Roscoe saw some other patients that day, but this one was truly special.
